parallel high current diodes

Hi,

For a rectifier rated at 200V and 70Amps RMS current, is it possible to parallel multiple diodes (ie two 200V 35Amp diodes) if small series resistors are used on each diode to help balance the current as well as mounting to the same heatsink to have close temperatures?

Also some TO-220 and TO-247 packages have two diodes, is it safer to parallel these since they will be similar in structure and have very close temperatures?

I would like to be able to use standard throughhole parts rather than stud mount diodes, but 200V and 70Amps seems to be pushing it for TO-220 and TO-247 package diodes.

cheers, Jamie

Thanks Terry :) AN599 makes it look like not such a bad idea to parallel diodes, especially if they are in the same package.

Thanks, digikey has the RURG80600 (80Amps 600V) and several others but wasn't able to find the 120Amp one at digikey or fairchildsemi.com

Is that all? how about some big ones - Semikron SKKE290F 600V 455A.

or really big - Eupec A198S13TCF 600V 3,100A :)
