OT: Why go to Somalia at all?

If Somalia is so dangerous why go there at all?

Ever heard of the Suez Canal?

Yes any ship transiting the Suez canal has to pass close to Somalia.

A ship could hug the Yemeni / Omani coastline, then, 500 miles offshore of Somalia, head south... are most of the pirate attacks off the northern Somali coast or eastern Somali coast?

There's oil in Sudan, right? To ship it to Europe or America, head north to the Suez Canal, away from Somalia, right? Only ships destined for Asia or Australia need pass Somalia...?
