OT: USB Computer-to-Computer

Well, the MoBos that I've work on that have the three position berg jumper lets you move the jumper from 1 - 2 to 2 - 3, so that it apparently shorts the cap to ground.

I found that the old ATs used a battery that had a 47k resistor in series with the lead. In order for the v drop across the resistor to be less than a fraction of a volt, the current drain had to be very low, only a few microamps.

I have an HP with a cap across the battery which allows the CMOS to last 15+ minutes with the battery removed. I had a driver problem in XP that repeatedly killed the CMOS, so I quickly worked out that after pulling the battery, I needed to short the terminals to make the process go quicker :-).

I don't think they'll ask who referred you, but you could tell them that you saw the job opening on the website. This part-time job might have some odd hours that mean you might be able to come in twice a week, for ten hours each, or more like 19 hours total. Or they might ask you to come in for a few hours in the morning and some in the evening. The place is a lab and classroom so it will be occupied during both the day and night. I've never worked in one, but at times I have to work around one, say when I have to do work in a classroom and I have to find out when there's no class so I won't disturb anyone.

There is opportunity for full-time work in the future. We are building a new 3-story building out at our other campus that will be the LRC, Library and Learning Resource Center. This 3-story bldg will have the usual stacks of books but will also have a lot of PCs and media equipment. When it opens in a year or so, they will need to hire more techs.

And then there is the 2-story DMC, which is also being constructed. When this Digital Media Center opens in a year or so, it will have the up-to-date, state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for producing TV, video and other media. I was over to the construction site, and they are framing up the stages for sound and video, and each inside wall is cinder block, to give good sound isolation. It's going to be a real difficult job to pull cabling thru there, with all those cement walls. The original plans called for fiber to the desktop, but they may not go that route last I heard. In any case, it will have a high end server farm to support the video production. Our existing video facilities in a building at a nearby campus will be moving there when it opens, but I figure that with the additional floor space, they will need more people to do various jobs. So hire they will .

And often other people move up to a better job, leaving opportunities for someone else. That's what happened in this particular job opening. So there will be other opportunities. And there will be other people applying for the jobs, so expect to have to compete with them to get the job. Life's a bitch, and then you die. ;-)
