Hahahaha.... Yes, Those big milliwatt generator sets have to work real hard to keep things juiced!

I like catching stuff like that too. I cannot believe that some editors still have jobs most times. I see it a lot on TV news as well. I would say to myself, "How can that stupid remark have slipped past the producers?"

Current temperature in Vancouver, BC: 3C, cloudy. Brrrr..

I'm using lots of milliwatts to stay warm.

Oh well, I suppose one should count one's blessings - at least they didn't say 10,500 mW/h.

My client in Adelaide (Australia) reports a daytime high of 45°C, and a nighttime low of 35°C :-(

Even our local science reporter has trouble separating watts from kilowatt-hours, and millions from billions, and viruses from bacteria.

And it's annoying when they say that a solar array will generate

15,000 watts per year, and that is enough to run 10 homes.

What can you expect from journalism majors?

I expect more, because I can (I've been taking lessons from top management).

Seriously, I've considered on more than one occasion to proofread my local paper for this sort of nonsense and send them a daily email. I don't know if they'd thank me or just killfile me.

This isn't what burns me, though. What burns me is their total lack of understanding of the basics of statistics. So they'll happily retool someone's press release, while ignoring both the flim-flam and the agenda of the release ("while one in ten Americans have athlete's foot, OVER ONE MILLION have ingrown cranial warts") -- can't these people at least divide a number by the total population of the US?

And why do they measure all distances in stories or football fields?

John

Because they assume that that's what people understand?

My personal gripe is the lack of distinction between using fewer and less. "Less dollars", "Less people" Argh! If it can be counted, it is fewer. If it can not be counted, then it is less. This must have been left out of the last two generation's education.

That's because 37.84% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

I think right now it's 120% in most states, at least for financial stuff.

Question: How do you handle payment? My bank usually slaps on a wire charge even if the client had paid the wire fees. Which I am typically able to get reversed but sometimes not. Or maybe you still use Fedex and have a Brink's truck pull up ... :-)

Via wire. Smile and eat the wire charges :-(

Just happened this past week here in Ahwatukee Foothills:

Armored truck stops at local credit union, one guard gets out and starts refilling ATM.

Guy runs up with a gun and fires a shot.

But there's still a driver inside the truck, who proceeds to hit would-be robber with truck.

Robber is seen by witnesses "wobbling" away without any loot ;-)

Several years back the bank my wife worked at was on a cost cutting=20 binge. Someone in management had the bright idea of having bank=20 all employees be on call to fill ATMs on rotating shifts. SWMBO=20 gave them an earful (like she's going to carry a couple of hundred=20 grand around downtown at 2:00AM on a weekend). That wasn't going to=20 happen.

My oldest daughter, now the politician, was once a bank manager in San Diego.

They were robbed at gun point.

Robber runs out the door with loot (actually the "dye bomb"), confronted by cops, drops the money, it didn't go off.

Little ol' lady walking up to bank, sees money, is good Samaritan, brings money back inside...

Bl-a-a-a-a-am!

Little ol' lady coated in blue ;-)
