That was done by The Brat. There's an LTC 12-bit 250 MHz LVDS-output ADC driving the FPGA, all a couple of inches away from the switching power supply. Somehow it works. Noise is about 1 LSB RMS.
The customer kept adding functions to the FPGA, and it kept getting hotter, so we added a pin-fin heat sink on top and gap-pad thermal transfer stuff between the bottom of the board and the case.
So then the customer mounted six of them in a 3x2 array, with the middle two sandwiched, no cooling, no air flow. People noticed that the units were running really hot, they formed a Tiger Team to investigate, and they added this:
