I was not suggesting that diode for any particular application, just providing it as an example of a fast soft-recovery diode with the reverse conduction characteristics clearly shown in the data sheet. I think IR suggested it for the freewheeling diode, but I am only suggesting that you think about the effects of reverse recovery for any diode used in fast power switching applications. Power diodes intended for line frequency rectification, where reverse recovery is unimportant, will not even mention it in the data sheet, and these diodes may not be well suited to fast switching applications. By fast I am referring to your ~1 us turn off time, not the few hundred Hz switching rate.
