Right, everyone should hide in their basements and never come out. That would stop the pandemic.
Right, everyone should hide in their basements and never come out. That would stop the pandemic.
It would. The great thing is they would not have to hide forever, just a few weeks. Within two weeks everyone who is infected would be testable. Anyone who was positive could be treated and removed from the population at large.
Once this was done in an adequately massive scale the infection would be virtually gone. If we followed up with track and trace with prejudice, we could nearly eliminate the disease and people would not need to self isolate anymore.
The proof is in the many countries where they keep it under control.
There's no magic, no mystery science. In terms of preventing the spread, it *is* much like a cold. The difference is that doing nothing to stop the spread will result in some millions of deaths in the US and many millions of deaths around the world.
Why are people in denial of this? It is not complex science.
I believe the White House has a basement. Perfect.
During the Cold War everyone east of the Mississippi was expected to shelter for six weeks after a hypothetical counter-force strike on the missile fields out west but I suppose the prompt physiological effects of fall-out would make for a more convincing argument, at least for the first week or two while the really hot stuff decays.
If there were a nuclear exchange in Asia or the Middle East people on the west coast would be wise to do something similar.
The casualties and economic damage of C-19 when it's all said and done may be about equivalent to a limited nuclear exchange where 25-50 weapons hit mostly strategic targets on each side. Million dead, times three wounded, takes the better part of a decade for economy to recover.

That is one of the problems with this disease. There are people who not on ly don't take it seriously, but think it is a hoax. Some of them have died of the disease.
It is just bad enough to kill a lot of people, but not so bad that it kills enough to be highly visible on a personal level. Several posters here tal k about the disease in their own corner as if that meant anything in the gr and picture.
In many ways this disease is the perfect storm of pandemic, highly communic able and not serious enough to get everyone's focused attention. While we debate how to best deal with the disease it steadily marches toward 2% infe cted, but still a long way from herd immunity.
FWIW Anothony Stewart is not NT. ICBA to engage with slowman.
NT
He's just the same kind of idiot. It's not as if there is any significant difference between them. They will be aware of the differences, but - as Samuel Johnson said "there is no settling the point of precedency between a louse and a flea".
Of course you can't. I point out where you are being idiotic, and you don't enjoy that at all.
SL0W MAN acting like an idiot again, insulting people.
That's his thing, 90% noise, 10% signal, childish posturing insults at every opportunity. He'll come back with more. Some folk I'm just grateful to not have their problems.
This new GG interface is moronic.
NT
There nothing in the least idiotic about pointing when NT is being idiotic. Only another idiot - like Flyguy - would fail to see the necessity.

NT isn't great at distinguishing signal from noise. He has this delusion that what he posts is signal rather than noise, and feels hurt when other p eople point out that what he's posting is deluded nonsense. He comforts him self with idea that he is being jeered at rather than corrected.

And the rest of us are grateful not to have yours. Being a gullible twit ca n get you into all sorts of trouble - I've seen it happen.
It is less than helpful. Quite why they changed it isn't clear. It's predec essor was easier to work with than the traditional threaded display, but th e new version isn't an improvement.

Hey SL0W MAN, I'll grant you one thing: you have a highly OVER-RATED view o f yourself.
My opinion of myself isn't going to line up with yours, partly because I know a good deal more about myself than you do, but mainly because your judgement isn't great.
As you tell us here - more or less non-stop - your judgement is remarkably poor, and you embrace a remarkable number of of stupid misconceptions.
Nobody here wants to know what you think about anything, and it would be nice if you didn't bother to tell us.
