Your hand wasn't blocking ambient light when you pressed the remote?

I once had terrible problems tracking down the source of mains noise in an audio mixer. Every time I went in there with a 'scope probe, the noise audibly vanished.

It took a long time before I realised I was leaning across and shading the Germanium transistors with flaky paint from the overhead fluorescent striplight.
