I am in the final stages of building a cb timer, the circuits working fine, but i have a problem with two of the 3 counters, they are showing a row of 8's lightly behind the digits, and make it dificult to read the correct time. what may cause this?

This type of counter is not suitable for displaying time. This counter is used for counting events or totalizing, not for measuring time. If you want to display time, then you need a clock circuit or a microprocessor that has been programmed to measure and display time.
