IF signal recorder

I would like to record six complex waveforms of 30 seconds duration each and play them back in automatic sequence. The highest frequency required is 2MHz. They will originally be generated using a lab arb gen.



The purpose is for portable test signals, so high fidelity is not that important.



Can anyone please advise what type of off-the-self, or easily modified, solution would best fit this requirement?

How much bandwidth do you need? Is 190 KHz enough?

Why doesn't anyone make such a device for pre-compliance work where you can display a few hundred MHz on screen?

I thought most spectrum analysers would let you sweep 100's of MHz. RF Space is not the only maker of Software Defined Radio receivers, so there may be others out there with wider bandwidth. However 100's of MHz might not be an easy task without downconversion.

By the way (to Joerg). Be sure to discuss your requirements with RF Space. I had beleived the SDR-IQ would let you play back the spectrum into another receiver at the RF. It may actually do that but most of the documentation I see implies playing back through a software demodulator.

I've got the ICOM R1500 here. It can do 5MHz wide sweeps on its own. However, for a reason that I'll never understand ICOM doesn't reveal its programming codes so nobody has written a program to turn it into a spectrum analyzer like it used to be done with their old PCR-1000. They are missing a HUGE market. I've told them but they won't listen.

I think it's at the IF level. That would be ok if there was a SW-routine to sweep at a somewhat reasonable speed.

There always seem to be the fantasy that "one-of-these-days" they're going to put out a proprietary add-on that does that so why should they give it away for free?

Needless to say it doesn't work out like that a lot of the time and hurts their current products to boot.

Lyrtech offers the VHS ADC Virtex-4, a multi-channel acquisition board (8 or 16 channels), with sampling rate up to 105 MHz. You need connection to a desktop or laptop to interface with it. The logged waveforms can be played back in a simulation environment (Simulink), or played back real-time through a VHS-DAC Virtex-4. If you don't find an oscilloscope-like solution, then this would definitely do what you need. You can email me directly if you need more information.

It's my understanding that the R1500, R2500, PCR-1500, and PCR-2500, commands are all supersets of the PCR-100 command set, which is commonly available in Ham Radio Deluxe and other PC receiver control software.

Yet another project... Besides, SDR receivers are more fun.
