Hi - I have a wireless modem type of device that gets about 1KM rangeat 9600 baud. It uses a single antenna for both receiving andtransmitting. I'm hoping to add an amplifier to this module to increaserange. Ideally I could just add both an rx and tx amplifier on one end(as I have no power constraints on one end, but pretty serious powerconstraints on the other end) - but either way.So - I'm a senior year EE and we have done alot of work on makingamplifier circuits. But everything we've done has just been having aninput signal and an output signal - I'm not exactly sure how thingswould need to be different with having signals coming in from the sameantenna as they're going out. Maybe is there some sort of switchingdevice on the module that switches the antenna between sending andreceiving? Or something else? Can anybody give me some guidance onthis?Thanks!-Mike

It would be much simpler to improve the beam shape of the antennas, to confine more of the energy to the path between the two antennas.

It sounded like his complaint was about aiming the thing, which kind of makes it a whole different order of problem, or at least, we need more information.

Assuming that the "base" station is fixed, a large biconical antenna may give you the horizontally omnidirectional gain you need. The thing would probably be 6 foot diameter and 2 foot tall. This should give you between

8 to 12 dB gain. Flatland assumed.
