Trump's original scheme involved moving all the Palestinians out of the Gaza strip. They wouldn't have benefited from any of the peace or prosperity, except in the sense of not being bombarded by Israel more or less non-stop. There is a strong argument for disarming Hamas, but with Israel stealing Palestinian land, and Israeli settlers persecuting their Palestinian neighbours, the Palestinians do feel a certain sympathy with anybody willing to act against Israeli oppression.

The US has never enforced it's immigration laws enthusiastically enough to cut off the supply of cheap labour, and Trump isn't enforcing the laws you do have all that enthusiastically - all he wants is the appearance of enforcement.

Laws against selling deadly drugs don't work. Prohibition didn't work, and the war of drugs that you have been fighting since then didn't work either. Harm reduction is a much more effective approach. Giving addicts a maintenance dose on prescription makes drug supply a much less profitable business.

The US has a perfectly adequate supply of home grown not-very-nice people. The imported thugs have to compete with home grown thugs.

The US has the highest income inequality in the advanced industrial world. It's poor citizens already work insane hours under terrible conditions, and quite a few of them do turn to crime.

The January 6 2020 attack on the Capitol looked very much like him not being willing to leave office. The process of prosecuting him for his part in it took a lot longer than it should have done.

Not true. They don't like what he is doing - quite a few people are worried about it, and the US judiciary shares their anxieties. The people who were silly enough to vote for him are presumably silly enough to tolerate his antics, at least for now.

He's definitely making America grate. And the people who he is rubbing up the wrong way have reason to resent it.

Brexit did *not* wreck the British economy. The UK has had a succession of desperately incompetant governments in recent years, with each one seemingly even worse than the one which preceeded it. All the manifest benefits from leaving the EU were never capitalized upon, whether by accident or design. There's a school of thought which runs that the British people had to be punished for having the audacity to choose an independent future.

From what Steve Bannon has said, it's possible Trump might run for a fourth term due to some sort of technicality in the 29th Amendment (if memory serves me right). You can just imagine the hysterical reaction from the nose-ring brigade to that!

Brexit certainly hasn't helped - I keep hearing from UK firms that have given up on exports because the complications caused by Brexit have never been resolved.

The problem with being part of Europe was that other countries were represented by their most able politicians whereas we treated it as a retirement home or a refuge for the incompetent. The result was that we got walked over time and again with inappropriate European directives being rigorously enforced.

When we joined we were promised trade but we also got bureaucracy.

When we left we were promised we would loose the bureaucracy and keep the trade.

We still have the bureaucracy but we have lost the trade.
