They don't. They put these stories about as a distraction so that most people won't believe they exist but are merely the product of deranged minds.

When radio was invented and implemented, aliens were able to detect signs of some sort of technology. Of course, they're probably not humanoid or even animals, they're technology/computers of some sort. Whether they were close by in some form or had to travel some years to get here is unclear. They may have been created by biological entities.

But once able to 'communicate' from nearby they were able to steer human technology from valves (tubes) to modern multi-billion transistor chips in an unprecedentedly short time. Now we have extraordinary computer power and storage available. We've even helpfully stored a great deal of knowledge and information into a readily accessible network.

As a result of this enormous power and access to data, AI is becoming a thing. Alien Intelligence.

I don't know where this takes us, what their plans or motivations are. I see no reason that they should care about our lives, that seems to be the way evolution works.

Now, I don't actually believe all this, but I can't really rule it out. The rate of development of processing power is the thing that makes me think we may have been 'helped'. Human hubris allows us to claim otherwise.

The physics of (conventional) interstellar travel doesn't make sense for beings who're on the order of a meter tall. Among the major problems not commonly considered is interstellar space has one hydrogen atom per cubic meter; if you're doing 99% of the speed of light that's like the output of a 50 megawatt nuclear reactor/blast furnace focused on the front of your reactor.

The numbers would probably work out better for intelligent creatures the size of ants, whose entire "space ark", carrying a representative portion of their whole civilization, could be the size of a Chevy Tahoe.

AFAIK there's no law of physics that says beings like that couldn't exist, I think a lot of physics required for technological civilization would work more-or-less the same if you scaled the volumes involved down by a thousand, there's a lot of space down there.

Once you start talking about unknown physics like warping space (which AFAWK requires negative energy density, whatever that is) I wonder if it starts to become simpler just to send microscopic robots across the galaxy and beam instructions on how to re-assemble the source civilization from raw materials, vs. maybe harvesting the power output of entire solar systems to warp space or whatever's required to move macroscopic objects around, both seem rather technologically demanding tasks, seems like a toss-up to me.

I had to Google that, though it did ring a bell. A bit before my time but I did enjoy the old BBC science fiction with their wobbly sets and household artefacts re-imagined as alien devices.

Our RF emissions started around 100 years ago and expanded at the speed of light. The LGMs had to think for a while and then jump into their UFOs to get here.

So they must have an outpost fairly close.

Well, the rapid semiconductor expansion started what, in the sixties, seventies? There are a few stars less than 10 light years away so getting here is feasible at significantly sub-light speeds. Not organic life, probably.

Or they could have identified 'Goldilocks' planets and installed sleepers long ago. After all, we send probes, and we're just apes.

I'm just saying it can't be ruled out. It's human nature to think that we're really very clever and had no need of external 'help'.
