Consultant wanted

Please can anyone recommend a qualified Engineer to conduct an assessment of an existing installation and perhaps suggest improvements/upgrades? What I'm talking about is a Data Centre hosting about 130 Wintel servers and a couple of Sun units with EMC SAN and some other bits 'n bobs.

The 'assessment' specifically concerns not the computer kit but the reliability and robustness of the mains power supply via a permanently-on-line (battery-powered inverter) 40Kva UPS (3 phase), and associated distribution boards and wiring arrangements. The Data Centre has "evolved" over time and I'm not convinced the basic infrastructure is sound ...

Symantec Global Services? Their consulting services division in London might be able to find you someone.

Use Sony or IBM's CELL BE solutions.

Lower consumption, yet higher computing power, and more units per rack!

You could likely fit more computing power into a smaller footprint, that consumes less power.

Of course, it would likely cost half again as much as a PC relic based solution.

** You will get as many differing assessments and suggestions as people you ask - that way.

You must ask for specifics, not opinions.

For that you FIRST need to know what to ask.

** Like any device, the UPS will work until it stops.

Might as well ask for someone with a crystal ball to predict when that is.

You own the place or just work there ?

Just know someone who does ?
