A new carbon nanotube CPU made in an 8um process but apparently 9nm gates are possible:

How do they grow these for this application? Is it a lithography process?

No. Apparently one started with graphene and fiddled with it to get a ring shape,then started growing graphene on it to make it longer. I think. Could be totally wrong, but that is what i remember of the aged history.
