beautiful, horrible WWII movie

The activity was criminal and immoral. Bargaining with the people involved is distasteful. Promising them immunity from the death penalty in exchange for the data collected might have been justifiable (and would have left the m around to explain anomalies in their data), but anything more generous ha s to have been a mistake.

Indeed, after being tried for war crimes they should have been offered life in prison if they fully co-operated, or the death penalty if they did not.

Nothing else is justifiable IMHO.
