battery chargers, again

Our car came with emergency road service provided for the warranty period of the car ;-)

State Farm offers it for like $3/6-months. Verizon even has it for ~$2/mo., on your cellphone bill ;-)

Insurance for improbable events can be quite inexpensive. I just added full identity theft coverage to our homeowners... $25/year. ...Jim Thompson

It's the brat's vehicle, IIRC. I wouldn't beg *any* trouble for a woman's vehicle. ...for more reasons that I can count. The brat's, never.

Insuring what one can easily afford to lose is always a loser.

Identity theft is quite unlikely can be a royal PITA. As long as they're insuring that *they* will clean it up, not just cover monetary losses, it's probably a good deal. Be *very* careful about what they will cover though. Most of that sort of insurance is garbage.

She left the Echo - her high school car - in our garage because all she wants to drive now is her Jeep Rubicon. Gotta get her to sell the Echo so we can have our garage back.

But if her car battery did go dead, she wouldn't have any trouble getting a jump start.

Lucas, Prince of Darkness?

It's the weirdest form of gambling - the only way to win is to lose.

Yeah! Do they send their own gumshoes to track down and punish^H^H^H^H^H^Hprosecute the perp? >:->

That's why you buy insurance. Money is cheap. It's better to lose it that what you're insuring. That's the whole problem with "health insurance"; it basically "insures" expenses.

There is one company that promises to do the dirty work, at least. Others merely dance around the issue.

Ah, I misunderstood incorrectly. I thought it was the car she drives that had the bum battery.

Were she my daughter, that's exactly what I'd be worrying about.

That's why I went in the Nissan dealership with cash in hand, and asked my daughters, "Which color?" ;-) ...Jim Thompson

But not in the Ford Cortina. It was some sort of newfangled specialty fuse where you couldn't accidentally short the battery side with a falling wrench.

Other than that the car was good to me. Always started on the 2nd or 3rd crank. It had to because the battery would unlikely have given me more than five.

Why is everyone spoiling their kids so much? Same with the daughters of a business friend, they got cars courtesy of daddy. Plus tuition, room and board at rather ritzy colleges. I had to work for my first car. Dad wanted to chip in to get me a somewhat decent looking used car upon nailing my masters but I said I should really try to pay my own way. And did. Couldn't possibly show up for interviews in my old Citroen but the TUEV had just blown it out of the water anyhow, declared it unroadworthy. You could see the road surface fly by when looking down.

Like Keith, I'd be concerned about what happens afterwards ...

Please select one of the following options:

_ / / Drive kid to/from school, to/from softball practice, to/from friends houses, to/from weekend activities, to/from mall

or

_ / / Buy kid a cheap Toyota.

John

Option three, in Europe in the 70's:

Tell kid to work and use proceeds to buy a bicycle, which can then almost indefinitely fulfill all the tasks from option one :-)

Why didn't she just keep the Echo? It's a nice car for college and university, very economical. Probably sips half the fuel of a Wrangler. Of course the coolness factor is only 10% or so.

BTW, my first car _after_ receiving my masters degree was a used Chrysler Horizon. Before that the predominant mode of transportation was a 10-speed.

Kid takes bus, bicycle, or feet. After high school, I did give ours the minivan to go to work and college (until he dropped out).

Our first car was a '70 AMC Gremlin. The in-laws bought it for us as more or less of a wedding present.

Except that this town was built on a mountain range.

Yup. Right after she landed her first real job, she got the Rubicon. I gave her a raise, and she moved into a fancy apartment a couple blocks from PacBell Park. "Sacrifice" ain't what it used to be.

I got a yellow Austin-Healey Sprite, new, for about $1900. Freshman at Tulane, two jobs on the side. I had a lot of energy in those days.

This sounds more like a requirements problem to me. If your programmers are making up requirements... you have a much more inetresting problem.

Everybody's ignorant about something.

Which tells you nothing useful. In sharp contrast to what I wrote.
