Why is it that journalists feel free to exchange "million" and "billion" ?

I was just reading that two 40 foot diameter pipelines in California, that will carry water from the Sacramento River to as far south as San Diego, will cost 15 million dollars.

over here, billion is 10^12, 10^9 is milliard ;)

"journalist" these days seem to be mostly mindlessly copying from press releases and each other with no idea of what it actually says. The point is to get clicks and show ads as efficient as possible not much else

All insects have 6 legs - that's part of the classification of that group of animals.

As for millions and billions, Wikipedia has the answers:

I think it is a lot easier when people use kilo, mega, giga, tera, etc.

- it's hard to mix up megadollars and gigadollars.

He'd have written millipede if he wasn't trying to be comic.

A ballad ball is a musician's fund-raiser ... google finds a couple of "murder ballad balls" in that catagory.
