I made an impulse buy of alkaline AA cells last week at an auto parts store. I couldn't pass 'em up at the price: US$4.95 for a 24-pack. Made in China (of course) and branded "Endurance". Hadn't seen a store price that low, even at MalWart. So far, have installed only 2 of them, in a TV remote control, so I can't speak to their longevity ... yet.
Speaking of alkaline cells ...

Gee, almost cost effective as a source of zinc, graphite and manganese dioxide smudge.
