help on LM2576 with minus (-12v)

help needed.

i use the exact circuit (figure 10) in the manual of LM2576, but cant get the output of -12v the power supply is 24v with the max amp of 5amp, when it turns on the chip get hot and the power supply get overloade with a high amp of about 3.5amp.

is there any one can help on this? THanks.

This kind of circuit has a very high startup current, and if your power supply actually limits at 5A as opposed to that being the rated capacity it may not start reliably.

did you make a mistake and not insulate the back side of the chip from the ground ? as you are using the ground here as the - output the back plane of the chip is usually connected to the ground also. so in turn, you are dead shorting the chip if this is what your doing.
