FIIN XREF and .MIL Secrets

Is there a crossref between the Federal Inventory Number and parts such as semiconductors? Maybe I should say, I figure that there such a thing, but is it available to the public, and not just gummint? I haven't done any searches for such a xref, mainly because it's probably buried somewhere, as in the following.



Also, I seldom if ever see a .MIL website pop up in a Google search. Is that because there is some kind of confidential agreement between Google and the .MIL web hierarchy that they will not spider .MIL sites and add those to their search database? Seems so, anyway.

Do you have specific part numbers? I have a small database form surplus parts that were still in the moisture proof packing.

The military sites probably include the meta tag requesting the site not be crawled by the search software.

Nothing in particular. I thought it would be helpful when I encounter certain lots of parts on Ebay. Like this one comes in handy once in awhile.

I've found that some Ebay sellers try to inflate the value of their parts by comparing them to ECG/NTE parts, which obviously isn't valid because the NTE part may be 'equal or better', which means that the xref'd part may be substantially below the NTE specs, actually. Another handy one is the Heathkit Xref. I also had some Radio Shack to JEDEC numbers written down somewhere.

Ah, IC. But that would exclude _all_ searches, including the ones done by .MIL users. Maybe they check to see if the search engine is .MIL or not?

Yes, they have a nice website.

I am collecting that kind of information from my stack of Heathkit manuals. Some have more than one OEM cross when the part was used over a number of years and models so it doesn't hurt to know them all.

Its my understanding that the searchbots can ignore the request not to crawl a site.
