I wonder what the original purpose of this Stalinist invention was.
Torture? :-O

Nice toy for the home-sugreons hobby club.
I do remeber seeing an old russian output transformer from a tube amplifier, it used some kind of paper for isolation. I wonder how the original tube model of this device behaved in a humid environement.
Anyone wants to volunteer as a test person?
Got something against paper? Works just fine if impregnated properly.

When I worked for a previous employer, they had a neurological stimulator which charged a high voltage capacitor to some killovoltage, and then dumped it into a small coil placed on the patients head. Well, one of the guys at the office wanted to demo this thing, so he asked the secretary to be a gunea pig. The guy cranked it up very high. When he set off the pulse, the secretary instantly threw up right in his lap. He deserved that for shure.
something like this?
Exactly that. It used a chain of series connected mosfets inside to achieve the high voltage. I'm not shure of the details.
By the way, I once wrapped a few turns of house wire around my head and discharged a bank of four photoflash caps into it using an SCR. It had no effect on me. Bwaahaahaa!
Good thing you're not a Vietnam vet! :)
Other than the random flashes of insanity, a penchant for gaudy spandex uniforms, and one or two unique abilities such as absolute control of all things styrofoam?
where is news2020 when you want to try a new toy?
Actually this isn't as wacky as it sounds, although I'd have severe reservations with the 5mA current, a hundred or so microamps is plenty. Electronic stimulus has been used clinically to induce a deep state of relaxation, it is a reasonably well known process. My father in law cannot have conventional anaesthesia, and this method was used when he needed urgent surgery, no drugs, and he remained conscious throughout. I've also used it myself. After a serious spinal injury some years ago I have constant chronic pain, I'm not keen to use morphine, as prescribed, and find that I can at least relax using this method. Voltages are less than 30V. elctrode placement is critical, ut doesn't involve the base of the skull.

Recently I talked about this type of treatment for depression, and the thread was usurped by some of those familiar with the situation. I saw the device being used on TV, and it looked like a large caterpillar being placed on the guy's head. Thanks for the info, it has answered my questions on what the device was and how it worked.

I'm just trying to figure out what you meant by that. Is there something different about them, compared to WW2 vets, or Desert Storm vets, for instance?

Just turn the battery around. ;-)

Not safe! The Energizer bunny died that way. Someone put the batteries in backwards, so instead of going and going amd going, it started coming and coming and coming.
Cheers, Fred

That's the way rabbits live, that's the way rabbits die.
Cheers!

I wish the Energizer bunny would die! It was cute for about a week, years ago. Now, its just a bad joke that won't die.
