OT: Salutes

Krw is right wing nit-wit. Cursitor Doom is another. There's quite a lot that neither of them understands. If they understood a bit more they might not congratulate themselves for being equally stupid.

I certainly see Marx, Adolph, Mussolini, Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot--all those guys as big, big lefties. They were all about redistribution, which always needs a big nasty government so they can take by force and dole out their breads and circuses.

Those setups always wind up in few hands, who eventually go rogue and try to kill everyone. It's the nature of the beast.

But what's all this 'left' / 'right' stuff anyhow? They're all all-powerful centralized governments run by a handful of tyrants. Which is pretty much what Hillary was clamoring for...and Barack, and The Donald to a lesser extent.

Check out revcom.us from the signs, if you're of a mind--it's the American Revolutionary Communist Party's website.

It's certainly a bit odd that even the Communists recognize in Donald Trump the type of characteristics which make him a larger statist threat to libertarianism and free-market ideology than Hillary ever could have been.

Strange times make for strange bedfellows.

Of course you do. It suits the rhetoric you like to push.

You miss the point - as you always do - that those regimes were totalitaria n one-party states where the members of that one party took what they wante d from the population as whole. It's rather like the 1% in the US at moment who have pretty much hogged all the economic growth over the past decade o r so while the 99% has been at best level-pegging

Stalin, Adolph and Mao all managed to run their countries badly enough to k ill off a lot of people - they were murderous psychopaths. Oligarchies aren 't naturally murderous, they they can get vicious if they fear that their g ravy-train might be derailed

Democratic socialism - as practised in Scandinavia, Germany and the Netherl ands - seems to go for multi-party democracy with a coalition government ru nning the country. There are real elections, and the parties in the coaliti on do change from time to time.

This does depend on proportional representation - single member constituenc ies reliably lead to two-party government. Australia has a single transfera ble vote system with single member constituencies in the lower house which does open up the field a bit - after the most recent election there are 76 Liberal (right) 69 Labour (left) and 5 independent members of Parliament in a 150 seat house.

The Australian Senate has proportional representation across each Australia n State for senators. Each state (and there are six of them) gets twelve se nators, and the two "territories" get two senators each.

The Liberal/Country party has a one seat majority in the lower house and no body has a majority in the Senate. The Senate has a long history of blockin g ideologically motivated legislation while passing stuff that makes sense to all sides.

"People Power" isn't necessarily communism, and if you see it on an America n street in 2016 it's very unlikely to be communism.

org/about-us/

They are certainly left wing, and appear to like working class organisation , as Marx did. Marx endorsed the "leading role of the party" which is the c ommunist error, and nothing on that web-page suggested to me that they were actively communist or undemocratic - which is what you have to show if you want to claim that a group is "communist".

Sounds sensible, but if you want to call them communists you have to explor e their organisation, and tell us what kind of society they want to set up

suggest that it's one more cult of personality, with Bob Avakian as the per sonality at the core of the organisation (such as it is)

That particular idea - over-confidence in a charismatic leader - has killed a lot of people, and is widely discredited. On the other hand Donald Trump won a majority in the electoral college, so it hasn't been as widely discr edited as it needs to be.

If the electoral college does the job that Federalist 68 says - almost cert ainly incorrectly - that it was designed to do, it may protect against what looks remarkably like one more of the same, but I'm not optimistic.

No, you miss the point. That's what your architecture breeds.

Whenever you create a government for the express business of taking from some and giving to others, you've created a strongman (whether a group or an individual) who operates by force, and given him the means to do it.

Jim-out-of-touch-with-reality-Thompson in vintage form. We've had a thread on why liberals don't get suckered by fake news, and right-wing nitwits lik e Julian Barnes and Cursitor Doom posting YouTube clips - some of which app eared to come from real (if none-too-reliable) web-sites - as if they were reliable evidence.

It's the right-wing that believes non-evidence-based nonsense, and elected Donald Trump on the basis of promises that he's never had a chance of deliv ering, and probably never had any intention of trying to deliver.
