Mains power voltage drop to reduce usage?
Instead of rolling blackouts when there's a power shortage, why don't we just allow (or deliberately) the voltage and frequency to drop? Wouldn't that make a lot of devices use less?

Microcontroller-based strategies like this work OK for high-Q inductances:
My ancient Heathkit audio signal generator, which uses 3 tubes and a light bulb in an oscillator circuit, claims to produce sine waves with a total harmonic distortion less than 0.1%.My semi-ancient Hewlett-Packard HP202B oscillator only...

I was flipping through AoE III looking for anything on VCAs. (Doing a VCA whose noise doesn't tank at low gain is hard--I'll start another thread on that.) I noticed the "designs by the masters" sections, which are fun. My candidates...
I'm searching for a simple one chip solution if anyone has any ideas.Best I've found so far might be the old 8038 function generator chip.
