SMT USENET Group?

Is there a group that deals with SMT technology? I did a search and came up empty.

I am new to SMT and am looking for some basic technology information. How to get an SMT design fabbed, what are the documentation standards, etc.

TIA

SMT parts are reallly... realllly... reallllly... small :P

But seriously...

Often I see recommended pad patterns and sizes on datasheets. PCB software often come with a SMT pattern library. SMT parts are available from the major distributors and manufacturers. Fab houses probably just want a BOM and a PCB file.

Over here in BC one place is called Creation Technology.

SMT is really not a big deal. Most component datasheets have recommended pcb footprints. Ordinary board fab techniques work fine, and you can hand-solder most parts, except maybe the chip-scale stuff, with inexpensive tools.

Just do it. 1206 resistors scared me once. Now they look like Volkswagens.
