Simple High side switch ...design?

I need a power switch that open over 300 volt and close under.Max current 16 ampere DC on capacitive load.

If i take a comparator and i drive a mos or a igbt n channel (1200 volt 50 ampere) what could be the problem? Is it a good idea(the charge is capacitive) drive the gfate with a RC for make a ramp during the closing of mos?

Mos or IGBT stay on or off( no linear region or probably only during Switch) so it should dissiapte no more power.

Is necessary put a serie diode qith the drain ? Could be better put a shunt ad a comparator for switching off the mos when the current goes over the limit?

Thanks
