Incorrect. Not only do the receivers have explicit empherides encoded in rom, the satellites also transmit real time corrections of their orbital data.

You do not need broadband antennas. The signals of interest are around 1.2 GHz and 1.5 GHz. The trick is to disentangle several signals at the same time. CDMA is the method selected by the original authors. See "Gold codes" named after professor Gold.

You should have not bothered with the garmin page. It has too many false items. Good differential GPS is 1 cm or better resolution, not really quite good enough for surveying, but still used that way.
