If British industry was in trouble in the 1970s, my suspicion is that incom petent management had a lot more responsibility than any trade union activi ty. I can't say I saw any union sabotage anywhere I worked in the 1970's, a nd I did see a lot of inept management.
EMI - where I worked from 1976 to 1979 - did go bust (or at least got taken over by Thorn Electrical) after I left and that was due to a very high-lev el management screw-up. Trade union activity didn't come into it.
