OT, way OT: Shipping Rates

Hi

I have some STW45NM50 MOSFETs I will be trying to sell on Ebay, but I cannot get low shipping qoutes, like those I see from other Ebay sellers. Some state shipping down to 2USD world wide....

Any hints to how they get these low shipping costs? Exclusive agreement with UPS/DHL/Fedex?

Thanks

Klaus

Probably regular mail. Many countries have much more favorable rates than Western European ones, meaning west of the old iron curtain. For example, mail from some companies in Germany often comes here via a Hungarian post office.

I got a dose of that when doing a publication around 1990. The German post office wanted big bucks to send the manuscript package to Austria express. I had to fly to America that day so I dropped it off at the Chicago post office. Cost less than 40% with same guaranteed delivery date, and it got there on time.

Be sure these aren't Chinese sellers. PRC rates for worldwide shipping are downright cheap. Going the other way is 10 or 20x more.

When buying Chinese goods and the return policy is liberal ("free exchange", "unlimited warranty"), unless it's a very spendy piece of kit, avoid it: return shipping is on your yen and it is usually more costly to ship it back than the cost of the item.

UPS/DHL/Fedex?

Cheap mail service (Hong Kong is particularly inexpensive) and minimalist packaging (sometimes to a fault).

I got a tempered art glass trivet (a disk about 30cm/1ft in diameter with feet) and they just slipped it into a padded envelope and mailed it. And that was from a first-world source.

Couriers can be efficient if you make a deal with them and you need fast delivery (a day or two rather than a week or two).

There are some vendors on eBay and Aliexpress who mention using ePak, whatever that is. It is *fast* getting to the US in two days rather than two weeks. As a guess, it could just be them packing up a bunch of orders in one large box and shipping someplace in the US and then reshipping from there. Or it may be a euphemism for shipping from a warehouse in the US. I've never found anything explaining just what it is exactly. But they often don't charge any extra for it other than that they can get more for the item with fast shipping.

Shipping by mail can be cheap, but it can also be very slow internationally.
