Now there's an idea. We'll just have Jim Thomson add a vortex tube to his plumbing, add some fittings, and have hot water and ice cubes coming out of the same pipe. Yes, thermal seperation works with water. However, because water is only slightly compressible, the vortex tube requires much higher pressures (103 MPa or 15,000 PSI) to work: Hmmm... I guess Jim's pipes may not handle the pressure.

All well and good, but the misinterpreted attempt at jocularity had 
to do with that hot and cold _air_ can be generated with a vortex

The nitpicker in me wants to argue with that. EVAPORATIVE COOLING doesn't work if there's no evaporation.

Wind chill is empirically determined from physiological factors. Evaporation certainly exacerbates it, but I believe it's the combined physiological factors that determine the wind chill number.
