I've got upper and lower case, in 14, 24, 36, 48, and 72 point.

They're not .ico's though.

That's OK, IIUC. If you have a paint program that can save a file as a .bmp, you can rename the .bmp to .ico and suddenly, magickally, it's an icon. ;-) (don't know how they do the transparency, though - is there still such a thing as Microangelo?)

Oh... my bad. Why not capture a pi character and convert to icon with an icon maker :)

I used gimp to resize the image to x8 horizontal size, and then png2ico to make the icon.

.ico is just a bitpmapped grahics format (like .gif etc...) many graphics editors can save in ico format, so if you find an image you like it's pretty easy to convert, or I could convert one for you (using some free command-line tools).
