OT: An Appeal by everyone's favourite eco-loon, Greta Thunberg

Nothing lunatic about her ideas, even if Cursitor Doom doesn't know enough to realise it. She's got a lot of publicity for them, which illustrates appreciable competence.

If she mentioned the name Cursitor Doom, very few people would be able to place him. It should be even fewer, but he is a self-publicising idiot, known for being even more ill-informed than the average right-wing lunatic, in as far as he is known at all.

I wonder if anyone here has ever tried to "manipulate" a 16 year old into doing something they don't really want to do on their volition.

Parents have been trying for millennia to get 16 year olds to clean up their rooms and make their beds promptly with limited success. 16 year old girls also likely aren't nearly as receptive to the usual methods the petroleum industry uses on adult male politicians and scientists i.e. cash and hookers.

Let's worry about that she she shows some visible sign of distress.

She's not sick. She's got Asperger's syndrome, which means that she behaves unconventionally but that syndrome isn't incompatible with a full and prod uctive life.

She's the daughter of the opera singer Malena Ernman and the actor Svante T hunberg. She's clearly learned quite a bit about giving public performance s from her parents, and is rather good at it.

As a career path it's a bit unusual, but then so is Asperger's syndrome.

The people who take advantage of her considerable abilities may be exploiti ng her, but the agents who represent her parents are exploiting them, and g et commission on every booking.

Phil has his own interpretation of what is going on. It strikes me as quite an odd way of looking at what's going on, but he's entitled have his own s illy idea s too.

Despite Phil's delusions, anthropogenic global warming is happening, and is worth worrying about. The coal mining industry would prefer us to ignore t he problem, ans seem to spend a lot on getting "influencers" to try to pers uade the less well informed (like Phil) that it isn't happening.

It is cheaper to buy misleading U-tube presentations than it is to try to d o the sort of scientific work that might provide alternative explanation of why the temperature of the planet is going up.

The people who have tried find some kind of alternative explanation haven't done very well so far, so the mining industry is concentrating on cheaper options.

The child of an actor father and an opera singer mother is likely to be awa re that you are only as good as your most recent performance. She has found a part to play, and seems to have played it rather skillfully, and will pr obably move on to more conventional roles when she gets older.

Greta Thurnberg retails the co nclusions of the International Panel on Climate Change which was set up to review the science and serve it up to politicians in a form that they could understand.

It's not a bunch of deranged fanatics, even if Phil and Cursitor Doom would like to think so. Deranged fanatics have different career paths, and get t heir money from more poorly documented sources.

He certainly can't produce anything that looks like it. There's a successful Ph.D. thesis a long way back in my past, so at least I was once able to manage it.

Let's see Phil Alliosn or NT produce a line by line analysis that picks out any deviation from scientific orthodoxy.

The fact that neither of them seems to know much about science shouldn't discourage them.
