Anybody here ever build the "Don Lee" Television way back in the day?

I ran across an old Radio News mag(1937) That featured plans and notes to build this early Don Lee TV design and was wondering if anyone here had dabbled with it(and was still alive to tell the tale).Everything was pretty experimental then(and probably fun but frustrating) The TV went through a few transisitions in kit form up into the fifties-And was sold through the back pages of radio mags. Wasn't sure if any REAL old timers ever got one to work on/build or even seen or heard of it. Sure a LONG way from the new digital days- The original set had an 8 Megahertz I.F. and was a 5 inch electrostatic deflection tube. I understand the transmitter is up behind the hollywood sign. According to Google the first station still exists in L.A.(but obviously upgraded a bunch) Would love to hear some stories if anybodys left!Did the thing work and to what extent?

Thanks, Mark
