SD v SSD v USB stick?

I'm setting up two Pi based smart PVRs. Their major function is to record and play back Freeview TV. I've tried recording to an SD, an SSD which I had lying around and a USB memory stick. All have been successful. I'm now setting up for the long term.

I understand that such devices have wear-evening and error-reduction systems inside them and that, since the SSD operates through a USB converter it has no speed advantage, but is there any difference between them as far as reliability is concerned or are they essentially the same except for their packaging?

Note I am acutely sensitive to noise so spinning discs are not an option.

ssd yes, sd card and usb stick AFAIK no.

I would use the sd card for the system and the usb stick for the data. I think is the cheapest solution.

AFAIK only SSDs are specified for significant throughput, whereas with USB/SD memory you are relying on unknown and undisclosed wear levelling magic. Hence, for me the choice would be easy.
