Samsung Microwave oven

Hi,

New to this group so not sure if it the best place for microwave oven repair, anyway here goes.

Samsung SMH6140WB

Oven has had a history over the last 6 months of producing a loud bang (arcing?) once every couple of weeks or so, but appeared to work OK otherwise.

About a week ago it gave 3 or 4 loud bangs and then there was no heat. Controller, fans, turntable, etc all function correctly.

On disassembly I found that the HV capacitor had been arcing badly and had eaten its way through the plastic insulation shroud on one of the terminals, although there is no arcing that now.

Replaced the capacitor and how there is heat and everything works OK. However the same capacitor terminal arcs constantly to its plastic shroud. I am at a loss to know what would be causing this (limited knowledge & understanding). Can anyone help.

Would I just pack the high voltage putty into the insulation shroud around the double terminal.

I would check the cables and connectors and possibly replace them. I don't think HV putty would help here.

Replacing the HV diode eliminated arcing at the HV capacitor. Microwave is now operating normally. Thanks everyone for your input.
