I have a 10-y.o. Pioneer RPTV, an SD-P5073 that's developed a strange problem over time. A while back, the set started making a 'pop' sound in the audio occasionally. Not often, maybe every couple of days. When it did, the picture would go a bit snowy and the colors would go off from normal (tints shifted).
After a few months of this, when I'd turn it on, the picture would be 'ghosty' for a couple of minutes until it warmed up. There were noticable 'echoes' in the picture, gong off to the right of the image, most noticable when there was white text from an ad on-screen.
Now the popping occurs more frequently; when it does, it appears the tuner is going slightly off-channel. The picture's there, but gets a bit snowy, colors go off-tint, and then the picture comes back as normal. When it does, the on-screen channel indicator comes on as if I'd changed the channel.
I've verified using an external tuner on power-up that the problem appears to be on the RF input. The same signal through video inputs never changes and looks great--no audio popping, color shifts, or loss of picture. No ghosting either.
So, could this be a tuner problem or a microprocessor problem? Or, perhaps the power supply is to blame...?
