national shortwave radio

a friend has a 1947 national shortwave radio. it works, but supposedly not well. would it have any value?

The model number would help. National is above Hallicrafters, below Collins in general value all other things being equal. However, they seldom are. A high-end Hallicrafters will outdo a low-end National.
