Mid-2000s Frigidaire 5000 btu Window AC - Timers frickn NOT WORKING!

I own two of these, one is 5000 and the other a 10,000 btu, both of this style, electronic, with remotes:

I turn them on, press 'Timer' button either on unit or on remote, select how many hours I want it to run before shutting down, I.E.: 1.5hours.

3-4 hour later, the DAMN THING is still blasting away, and the timer indicator light on the AC's touch panel is not lit!

This has been happening more often in the last couple seasons than when they were new.

What's going on here? Other than this timer issue, they are reliable and tough, and cool the rooms as intended.

Nobody has any obligation to help you.

Maybe nobody here has any experience with the problem. Maybe it's that it's about an airconditioner, which isn't the purpose of this newsgroup. Maybe it's more like you can't read instructions, it certainly doesn't seem like you are planning to fix the thing yourself, so the question likely belongs elsewhere.

It's also only been four days, interrupted by a US long weekend, so maybe it's simply that you are impatient.

Or maybe you never gave enough information so someone could help. "It dosn't work" isn't good enough.

History says that when someone complains that nobody is helping them, it's usually that poster that has the problem, and chances drop to close to zero that anyone will help afterwards.

On the back of the unit there is a label that says "no user serviceable parts inside". Since you are just a "user", there is no sense wasting any time helping you.

Go down to Wal-Mart and buy another one.

smh! indeed.

Alright, well here is a model number: FAA065N

What other information would be needed? And the timer buttons on these thi ngs are so fundamental that even my cats could operate it. Press timer, th en press temperature arrows to select duration in half hour intervals to sh ut off. So I have no problem with instructions.

You do have the unit on and cooling when you press timer? If not it cancels the time setting when you turn it on. it should show hours to turn off on the display also if its set correctly.

Yes. I hit power, set desired temperature, and then press timer and the ha lf-hour increments. I.E. 7 hours overnight(we get up early around here) :) 6.5....6.0...5.5.... etc. Believe me, I'm a little slow, but I'm not dumb.

So upon every 3rd to 6th time, the timer on light mysteriously extinguishes , and the unit continues to run ad infinitum until I shut it off.

As to your second sentence, the problem is that these units allow pressing of the timer button to turn them on. This feature should be disabled(or sh ould have been, in units superceding mine).

It could well be a fault, these units are so cheap that I'd guess the circuit board and soldering is dubious. I have a Frigidaire dishwasher that does its own thing, runs forever, goes to extra hot wash, hot dry at random. Some of these electronic controls should not be on heated/steamy/vibrating appliances. My Maytag washer still runs fine after 14 years, mechanical timer controller, AND it resumes if the power trips out for a while. Good luck with it.

So go buy a new timer and install it yourself.
