HP 7140 LCD Failure

I am trying to troubleshoot an HP 7140 LCD. The LCD backlights, but remains completely black. I am able to access the machine using an external monitor. I have cracked it open and am ready to replace some parts. I don't want to spend time and money throwing parts at this box. I am leaning towards a new system board (assuming there is separate chips for LCD and external video), but do not know enough about LCD technology to rule out the inverter, LCD, or cable kit.

The machine just went black right in the middle of use and stayed that way.

Any insight into what should be replaced,or how to troubleshoot to narrow my search would be greatly appreciated.

Ryan

Please describe the unit you are working on. You call it an LCD, but it sounds more like a laptop PC, but the HP 7140 is listed as an OFFICEJET Network-Ready Digital Copier, Fax, Scanner & Printer.
