CTC 203 blows the output.

Model # F32649 Chassis # CTC 203 CA9 @ turn on relay clicks a couple of time...horizontal output shorted 2SC5148, caused by a bad connection @ C14402 .0168 1600 volts, & the capacitor measures ok. All else checks ok, & the T.V. runs fine, voltages ok, & pix fine...couple of minutes later power supply squealing, output shorted again. Connections, & horizontal drive has been soldered. I don't have a flyback ringer. Ideas? Dani.

What does that cap you checked OK do? Running for a few minits and then blowing the H-transistor is typical of flyback tuning cap gone low in value. If it runs for a few minutes, shorted turns in the HOT would have time to get pretty hot!

Check the little choke in series with the HOT base drive. Common problem was contaminated solder joints. Some folks said it was from glue used, or maybe the wire wasn't clean enough. Resistive connection can cause insufficient drive current which makes HOT spend too much time in linear conduction and burn up.

Some monitors (and probably some TVs) have an electrolytic in series with the base drive, it can dry up with similar results!
