Compaq P1100 FD Trinitron monitor problem

Hi,

I was given a Compaq P1100 FD Trinitron monitor with a problem that I'm hoping for advice on. When first turned on, the contrast is too high, but not so high you can see the raster, and also is adjustable with the digital controls. After 10-15 minutes of warmup, the constrast has settled down to exactly where it should be. From that point on the monitor functions perfect, with good color and contrast. Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

If you mean brightness, not contrast, then it's probably normal. Those monitors are very bright when first turned on, but settle down after warm up. Andy Cuffe

Hi. Thanks for the response! Yes, I did mean brightness, not sure what I was thinking when I typed that out. Now, once warmed up the brightness is perfect and matches very closely my SGI GDM-5411p FD trinitron monitor (manufactured 2001). I've found from more reading that the FD trinitons manufactured from 1999-2000 are prone to excessive brightness on warmup as well as the problem of them developing excessive brightness post-warmup as well (and fixed via resistor). This Compaq is a 2000 year model, and as of now it doesn't have the 2nd problem, but I have noticed the colors are not particularly accurate. I've been able to very closely match the colors to my 5411p by going into expert mode in the Compaq's color menu and turning the blue bias down to 0 (from 50) and the green bias up to 75 (from 50). I guess the question I have is, what would cause this problem, and is it likely to get worse? I hope not, since I don't really have any more adjustment room in the menu. With those tweaks though, it works well, and I can't complain since it was free.
