MicroXwin -High performance X windows for embedded system

Hello Developers,

MicroXwin implements X windows server in the Linux kernel. Why use MicroXwin ?

  1. MicroXwin software is faster than even hardware accelerated X11 server.
  2. MicroXwin kernel run time needs 0.5MB vs 15MB for standard X11 server.
  3. MicroXwin is compatible with standard X11, WMs and Toolkits. You can run GNOME with OpenBox WM on Fedora.

MicroXwin evaluation code is now available for Fedora 10. Please visit

Does this mean that if X windows crashes (usually because of poorly written client app code) your kernel will get a panic as well ?

There is a system call layer that separates user mode apps from kernel. Client can crash due to client bugs but will not effect the kernel X module or other X clients which will continue running and make X windows calls.
