Various other distros are planned/running on the board.

It does not have direct connector for SATA, but with its 4 x USB, you should be able to tag on a USB external HD to sort that.

I think this ARM device like all other ARM SoC devices is also suffering from NDAs that prevent open source developers developing any deep understanding of the chip or help write any software for it. Its stuck in Android 2.3. Because it is all NDA'd, there is no open source video codecs or anything else that might make the product interesting and increase wider product adoption and more developers making gadgets with it.

So sad.

Still, its an opportunity for EU to make their own ARM like chip with emphasis on EU manufacturing without encumbering it with NDA, and making all the registers have names and bit fields in names in a single header file so that all variants of the device could have softwar written for it without duplication of effort every time a new variant comes out. It will sweep the world with a new chip for the age of Internet of Things. IoT is not happening with ARM no matter how many statements its board make in public about it. :-) Its a terrible mistake they make letting their empire get built on sand and its going to cost them their whole empire when a contender finally emerges to challenge ARM.

Such a EU made chip would probably sweep the ARM world away because there are no significant number of developers out there with deep understanding of ARM SoCs and Linux to make a credible commercial alternative.
