Update (was :- Mystery Motors - help required)

Hi there all.

Re. the Copal motors extracted from those old Compaq 15/30 DLT drives, part number LBT79-002 and possibly the -001 variant and others with the 9-pin connector.

I've got them going :) they need +12 and +5V supplies (logic and power). Here's the pinout.

Pin 1 = Motor drive enable 0=Off 1=On Pin 2 = Gnd Pin 3 = Direction control 0=CCW, 1=CW Pin 4 = Output from sensor A 2.5V centre Pin 5 = +12V In Pin 6 = Gnd (internally connected to pin 2) Pin 7 = Output from sensor B 2.5V centre Pin 8 = Output from sendor C 2.5V centre Pin 9 = +5V In

Connect a 1.5K resistor between pins 2 and 3 to ensure reliable switching, else pin 3 floats at 1.7V and the motor is unstable.

It may be possible to pulse width modulate the motor enable (pin 1) to get speed control.
