telephone ringer timer

I know nothing about electronics and am looking for some help here. I need a telephone to ring for 15-20 seconds every 2-3 minutes for ten hours a day for an art installation. The ten hours a day part will be handled manually. I plan on using a Link-it

but need to use a relay/timer to trigger off-hook condition for ringing time. With a 600 OHM resistor and a relay/timer plugged into source jack, Link-It manufacturer says I should be in business. The 4690A -8 -3 -2

seems like it might do it. I'm guesing. Any body think that might work? Better way to do it?

Thx, Pat

Do you actually want a real telephone to ring or are you just after the sound? If the latter I'd look for a sound effects generator. (Sorry if this isn't what you want - just hoping to make it easier for you).

Cheers.

I've done something similar using a looping answering machine casette tape with the desired sound on it so it would play the desired sound (dog barking) over and over again.

This is for an art installation where the phone is in the midle of the room. We need the phone to ring. A tape of a phone ringing is not I mdon't think would have the proper effect.

Yes, it looks like that would work.

Is there a better way? Well, it depends on whether you want to use all "off the shelf" (or "off the peg" as they say in GB) components, or if you want to build your own circuit.

You could probably do it for 1/10th the cost of those boards but it would require design/construction of a circuit. But if it is just one-off and you have the $$$, go for it.

Okay, is it going to be a bell ringer or an electronic one? The electronic ones are pretty easily generated. The phone could sit there not connected to anything and the effects generator could play the sound as required.

If you want to go the way of generating the required ringing voltages and not worry about sound effects, you could try devices like:

or build something like:
