Problem with fairly new AWA TV model W571

hi, just over a year ago I bought a 51cm colour tv from Big W store.AWA brand and model no.W571. For the first year,no problems at all,now a month later, now the warranty's run out (typical!) i've had to get it fixed (?!) because suddenly one morning i turned it on and there was the usual perfect sound but no picture as such.By that I mean just a blue screen with very faint image in background.Sort of like looking at a photo through a negative. Then within seconds that is replaced by just the blue screen with faint white lines running across the screen. I eventually found a technicial who could collect the tv and look at it straight away. He wasn't sure what was causing the problem, saying it could've been 3/4 things including the tube but that, that was the least likely cause. The following day he rang to confirm that it definately wasn't the tube but there were stil 2/3 other things it could be. A couple of hours later he said he'd found the problem, which was a bit too technical for me to understand but said he could fix it and it would be probably ready to collect later that day. It was! Again he tried to explain what the problem was but it was too complicated, something to do with the circuit board and something connected to the tube. Anyway all was working fine, and now 4 days later the same problem has occurred:( So despite forking out nearly $200AU to get it fixed (supposedly) the problem still remains.Does anyone have any suggestions? It's been suggested that this time round something else could be causing the same problem as opposed to any parts that were replaced. Hope someone here has some suggestions and/or have had the same problem. Sorry if my info has been a bit vague, but done my best to describe the situation. Thanks John

$200.00AU/! Our local supermarkets are selling New 20" sets for $99.00 CDN. We are now fully into a Replace/Do not Resuscitate Economy.

Trying to repair an intermittant is a NO Win situation ! If you can't find an fix it in five minutes, it's best to walk away, unless there is no better alternative (buy a new one of another brand, hopefully not a clone!)

Hi it is back at repairers again now.Don't know when getting it back though:( public holiday here tomorrow. Yes the repair is warranted. Can't afford to buy new tv,by the time you add delivery and tuning-in costs there's another $150 on top of price of a new tv.Catch

22 really. When he collected it this 2nd time I asked if it was because I have so many things all coming from same power source (dvd's vcr's etc) causing an overload or something, but he said no,it's something within the actual tv. Have been spending hours searching groups and forums to get some info but nobody seems to know anything about this problem. Have always liked AWA brand,my first tv was AWA and it lasted over 15yrs as was my first VCR an AWA and it lasted about 5yrs,so i've always stuck with the same brand.

Hi yes that's true, but i figured that as awa had been around for so long and i'd never had problems......you have to base your judgement on something. Like I won't buy akai stuff coz had problems with them. What is stunning me is that nobody seems to really know anything much about this problem despite some fairly extensive searching for info.I posted to an electronics forum(have usually found forums reliable in the past) but nobody's even bothered replying on there:( it seems that big w stores here(btw am in australia) have some kind of agreement with AWA and they sell all thier stuff which is imported from china. Just wondering now if the repair warranty of a month from original repair covers everything or just the original work done? If it's another reason that's causing the problem does that mean I will have to fork out more money?I am not sure how the ''system'' works and i suppose it's different for every country too. I mean for almost $200AU i would expect it to be fixed properly, admittedly $40 of that is pickup and delivery plus a 10% gst (tax) but even so,that's still $150! Don't want to be hit with another $200 bill coz can't afford that and can't be without the tv for yet another week:( Do any technicians ever come into these groups? Incase anyone is interested, someone on the forum i mentioned above has access to heaps of service manuals for all sorts of tv's vcr's cd players etc and for $7US he will provide you with a link to download the manual.I know that sounds a bit sus but he did seem genuine and looking at the forum others have contacted him and gotten what they wanted. You do need to pay via paypal though. Now if can only find out what's wrong with this damn tv:(

A good shop may charge you for additional parts (not the ones they recently replaced though) but shouldn't charge more shop time. They didn't do a complete job and whatever extra time they have to spend is balanced out by your inconvenience.

If it turns out to be an entirely different problem it would not be covered by warranty.

Hi, well i got it back again last night and within an hour the same problem ocurred! Can you f***ing believe this! Of course by this time the shop was closed.Rang them first thing this morning (saturday) and they're fully booked so can't do anything about it today (enter all expletives here!) and so no tv all weekend and its being collected early monday morning. This will be the 3rd time it will be looked at in 10 days! Trying to make out what was written on the original repair warranty is difficult because of the handwriting. Something about trace features to picture tube and tube socket.Dislodge internal foreign material and something about heater to cathode, short circuit on blue gun.Repair tele socket on picture circuit board.Replace heater dropping resistor and something circuit. Like i said it's hard to read the handwriting. Sick of looking at a blue screen with white lines going across it. I thought of getting someone else to look at it but then I would have to start all over again from scratch financially,in other words pay all over again. So I am in a no-win situation. Why does he get it going fine in workshop but it packs it in when I get it back? I posted on another forum (esi) when problem first ocurred but nobody's replied, seems nobody knows what the hell is going on. If anyone has any suggestions/causes/ideas - basically ANYTHING at all, you can email me direct on snipped-for-privacy@netspeed.com.au thanks p***ed off tv viewer

Tv is suddenly working ok now! ?????????????? Very odd - tried first thing this morning prior to my lasy post and it was still stuffed. Then

3hrs later, for no particular reason I switched tv on again and it was fine, and so far has been so. Don't understand this at all????? Any suggestiosn? Maybe the constant moving back and forth between home and workshop is not doing it any good? I posted this prob in the tv repair group on google and all i got was sarcastic responses:( Hopefully no further updates on this situation!Fingers crossed.
