Simulating custom peripherals

Any pointers or advice on simulating a peripheral created by the wizard in Xilinx EDK? I started this thing a while ago and I checked the option that had to do with creating simulation files for you (and was prompted to download some things to make them work), but now that I am at the stage I want to run some simulations, I am pretty lost. I am using ISE 6.3 to edit the files. I created a test bench (once!) before for another (separate) project so I am vaguely familiar with the idea of testbenching. I thought that it would be a bit simpler to use an automatically generated testbench than worry about all the PLB signals that might be necessary. Am I missing something straightforward? Any advice appreciated... I can provide more info if it would be helpful...

Thanks, Joseph

Hallo Josep

When you have only ModelSimXE (Xilinx Edition) there are no simpl

ways to simulate bus signals. You must create you testbech an manualy put the sim plb signals to stimulate your core. Or yo simulate the IPIC Interface because it is quite simpler to simulate

When you have ModelSim PE or SE you can build a simple environmen

whis simulate the Bus signals (BFM Simulation

Thanks for the reply digi.

The "BFM" acronym you gave reminded me that I had this package installed. When creating the custom peripheral, there was a options to generate simulation files (I think) and this prompted me to download edk_bfm_6_3.exe. I ran this and I suppose I am ready to run these BFM simulations. I found a .pdf on the Xilinx site about BFM simulations, but it isn't exhaustive (10 pgs). Assuming I have this piece of custom IP (built with the wizard to act as a slave on the PLB bus), do I start a new project in XPS to test it out? I see the bfm modules under the "add/edit cores" dialog but don't know how to go about using them. Do I do something like drop a PLB bus and hook my IP to it along with one of these bfm modules? If so, how do I get anything useful to play with in ModelSim? Any further advice is appreciated!

Well, still need help if anyone has advice.

I may be able to get things going if I know what to enter for the "Simulation Libraries Path" under the "Project Options" dialog. Assuming I have BFM stuff installed and ready to go, I found the bfmsim folder generated for my IP with the XPS project that is supposed to allow me to test it out. Now, where should these paths (EDK library and Xilinx library) lead?

Thanks... Joey

Still unsure about those paths... can anyone offer some guidance?

Great! Thanks Paul. I am using EDK 6.3, so I will peruse the equivalent manual for that version (though at first glance, looks like

7.1 didn't change this section too much). I appreciate the response!
