Yes, they first mentioned this a few weeks ago, on Feb 2nd....

Interesting move, - did they not have a Z8000, or Z80,000 production ready ? ;)

- or even a Z380 ?

The ZA9L looks like a external-memory device, so joins the other similar ARM9s from Philips and Atmel.

STm seem to have some FLASH Arm9's comming, so might shake up the other ARM 9's a little....

The Z8000 CMOS variant is still produced today, under the name Z16C01/Z16C02 (segmented resp. non-segmented memory).

Although some aspects are a bit dated, I really like its architecture. A few years ago piles of NOS NMOS Z8001 could be found on eBay (got tens of those, still waiting to get around to use them ;)), they're a bit scarce now. Check out this site for some additionnal info:

200MHz device.

Hehe... :)

Just like most designs of this time, they need a bunch of external components to works properly. So I had to get the DMA, serial, MMU and stuff like that (yes, an external MMU in 1979! Way cool! ;)) to complement the CPU. Everything's for the z-bus obviously, not really compatible with either Intel or Motorola...

Yep, they only recently announced the total config of the new device AND the product strategy. I wanted to wait until I had complete information; that's why I delayed the article.

Thanks,
