, table 2, the employment of wage and salary workers in computer and electronics industry in 2004 in the US is 454,000 for professional and related occupations. That includes computer specialists, computer hardware engineers, electrical and electronics engineers, Industrial engineers, mechanical engineers, drafters. It gives also the projected change, notice the downward trend for computer hardware engineers. How many of these would be called embedded developers? half? The remaining task is left as an exercise, given the gross product of the industry worldwide and the share of the US industry, calculate the employment worldwide;)
but MOST 8051 developers don't belong to that web site.... perhaps less than 10% (I don't know any who do use it and I know a lot of 51 users)
So if there are several 100 on there and it is a minority you are looking at several thousand 8051 users. Then we have users of all the other parts.....
