TFT Controller + Ethernet

Anyone seen a lowcost tft controller with ethernet interface ..?

Preferably flat physical layout.

There aren't too many processors that I know with both, integrated LCD controller and Ethernet MAC, check Cirrus Logic EP93xx ARM9 processors, and ARM9 processors from Digi International. Remis

The Sharps ARM7s - LH79520, LH79524, LH79525 all do it. They are pretty low cost

I use the 79524 and I quite like it. It seems a bit more evolved and civilised that the '20 but its user guide isn't as good and I think there's something wrong with the UART on A0 silicon.

Hmm, BGA I see. We have not done BGA yet... then again the 0.4mm pitch TQFP on the 79520 was a bit of an adventure. Did not help that

*someone* designed the prototype PCB for 0.5mm, by mistake. Ahem. It is still the single largest cause of production problems so perhaps BGA would end up easier anyway.

The AP7000 (AVR32 based) has dual Ethernet and LCD control. (You will lose one of the Ethernet ports if you use the LCD though) Runs Linux 2.6.14.

Have got an STK1000 since before Easter running Linux 2.6.14. Main application shown off is "mplayer" running some movie trailers on the QVGA LCD.

It boots U-Boot from the internal flash, but the file system is on an SD-Card. There will be a new batch next week but thats already booked, many to equip the sales force, but at least some of that will ship to customers. Next batch of STK1000 after that is coming end of May. Samples of the AP7000 are available but max 2 per customer at the moment. Current plans for production (rev B) is autumn. The reason for rev B is mainly that the part draws a little too much current.

The CD contains source code for building U-Boot, the gcc compiler toolsuite and the Linux. There is a Cygwin installation which allows building under Windows and some scripts which should allow building under Linux.

Only have a prerelease CD, so cannot say what will be on the full release...

If you get one, be careful with the power supply. The polarity of the power connector is reverse of that of the STK500.

They're alright until you want to get one off - heat guns, chisels and foul language required. BGAs are the future but I wouldn't attempt to use one without good JTAG debug capabilities or I'd work in sufficient quantities that I could throw away anything that might be at all tricky to diagnose.

Anybody not being a big volume customer should remember that Atmel has a long History of early announcements ...

The AVR32 was announced mid Feb 2006. The AP7000 chip was announced April 3. Samples are available within a month after the announcement. Linux 2.6.14 + GCC was available at announcement. Many customers already have an AVR32 emulator (JTAGICE Mk II) Development board will be shipped to customers within a month from the announcement. There is 4-5 weeks leadtime on the STK1000 right now, but that will hopefully go down.

At least the AVR32 track record is nice so far.

Samples of the AVR32 became available in less than a month after the announcement of the chip. Dev boards will start to ship to customers (in distribution) in less than a month after announcement. Runs Linux, has a gcc compiler and a low cost emulator (which many people already own). Maybe someone is learning.

If you are looking for 10ku, then autumn should be OK, 100ku, then later.

Then again, I remember reading the book "Pandoras Planet"... Fleet Admiral of Alien force invading the Earth: "I hear everything is going according to plans...." Colonel in the invasion force: "Yes, unfortunately not according to OUR plans..."
